This year, the grand chariot procession will commence on Friday, 27 June 2025, when Lord Jagannath, along with his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, embarks on his annual journey from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple. 🌟 The History and Spiritual Significance of Rath Yatra
The Rath Yatra is a sacred festival with immense religious significance for Hindus. The journey of the deities symbolizes Lord Jagannath's visit to his aunt's temple, marking the beginning of a period of nine days of devotion, rituals, and divine blessings. The procession is one of the largest public religious events in the world, attracting millions of devotees and pilgrims to Puri every year.
The festival features three massive chariots that are pulled through the streets by devotees:
-
Nandighosa – The grand chariot of Lord Jagannath, 45 feet tall with 16 wheels.
-
Taladhwaja – The chariot of Lord Balabhadra, 45.6 feet high with 14 wheels.
-
Devadalana – The chariot of Devi Subhadra, 44.6 feet high with 12 wheels.
These chariots, with their intricate woodwork and vibrant decorations, become the focal point of this grand spectacle.

-
Virtual Participation: Many devotees participated in the Rath Yatra virtually through live streams. Online darshan (sight of the deities) and virtual tours were popular among those who couldn’t travel to Puri.
-
Cultural Programs: Despite the restrictions, traditional cultural programs and rituals like Pahandi (procession of the deities) and Chhera Pahanra (King’s ritual of sweeping the chariot’s path) were conducted with great reverence.
