The other variety also exists, some of which also involve heavenly dining. One of them is the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra that takes place in the state of Odisha at Puri. If you've ever thought that a feast is only about deep-fried foods, hot curries, and plates full of meat dishes, you're dead wrong. There is much more to the Rath Yatra festival than merely the gastronomic treats we enjoy today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is Chappan Bhog?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 56 different food dishes that were presented to the lotus-eyed lord, Lord Jagannath, are known as \"Chhappan Bhog.\" The food\/offering to the god is known as bhog. This daily sacrifice to Lord Jagannath at the Shri Jagannath Temple consists of 56 different foods. In the Sri Mandir, the Bhog\/Naivedya is first offered to Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra before being presented to Maa Bimala. What is left over after the Nivedana has been accepted by the God is referred to as \"Mahaprasad.\" In the \"Skanda Purana,\" Lord Jagannath purifies his followers by allowing them to partake of his mahaprasad and worship him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-199 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/purijagannathadarshan.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-12-15-at-11.03.41-PM-204x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"204\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/purijagannathadarshan.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-12-15-at-11.03.41-PM-204x300.jpeg 204w, https:\/\/purijagannathadarshan.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-12-15-at-11.03.41-PM-698x1024.jpeg 698w, https:\/\/purijagannathadarshan.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-12-15-at-11.03.41-PM-768x1127.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/purijagannathadarshan.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-12-15-at-11.03.41-PM.jpeg 778w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 204px) 100vw, 204px\" \/><\/span>The temple kitchen has got the capacity to cook for one lakh people each day. It is said to be the largest kitchen in the world.Mahaprasad is cooked only in earthen pots and the medium of food is fire and wood only. There are 240 fireplaces and 600 cooks who cook varieties of rice, vegetables, and sweets for Lord Jagannath. The fire is lit from the Homa sacrificial fire. The Mahaprasad of Jagannath is so sacred that, it is believed, anyone can eat from a pot that someone has already eaten from. The beauty of the Mahaprasada is it does not spoil even if retained for a long period of time and it remains hot for a long time.This Mahaprasad is allowed to be consumed by people of all castes and creeds without any discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>There are six sets of offerings which are made throughout different meal hours. Here is the complete list of the 56 dishes of chhappan bhog :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Gopala Vallabha Bhoga (8.30 AM)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Sakala Dhupa (10.00 AM)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Bhoga Mandapa Bhoga (11.00 AM)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Madhyanha Dhupa (12.30 PM to 1.00 PM)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Sandhya Dhupa (7.00 PM to 8.00 PM)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Bada Srungara Bhoga (11.00 PM)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Making 56 dishes is definitely not an easy task. But it is believed that Goddess Laxmi supervises the meal and assures that it is prepared with the utmost devotion and care.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Rice dishes \u2013<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Sadha Anna<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Simple Rice cooked in water.<\/li>\n<li><b>Dahi Pakhala<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Water rice mixed with curd.<\/li>\n<li><b>Kanika<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Flavoured rice with ghee and sugar.<\/li>\n<li><b>Thali Khichudi<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Yellow rice mixed with lentil, ghee and sugar.<\/li>\n<li><b>Ada Pakhala<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Water rice with grated ginger.<\/li>\n<li><b>Ghea Anna<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Rice mixed with Ghee.<\/li>\n<li><b>Mitha Pakhala<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Water rice mixed with sugar.<\/li>\n<li><b>Odia Pakhala<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Water rice mixed with ghee, lemon and salt.<\/li>\n<li><b>Khecudi\u00a0<\/b>\u2013 Rice mixed with Lentil.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Sweets dishes \u2013<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"10\">\n<li><b>Khaja<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A sweet dish prepared from basic ingredients like maida. These are layered fritters, soaked in sugar syrup.<\/li>\n<li><b>Gaja<\/b>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0 A sweet dish made of wheat which is fried and then soaked in sugar syrup.<\/li>\n<li><b>Ladu<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A delicious round shaped sweet dish made with flour, sugar and ghee.<\/li>\n<li><b>Jeera Ladu\u00a0<\/b>\u2013 A ladoo prepared with cumin seeds, lemon juice, sugar and salt.<\/li>\n<li><b>Magaja Ladu\u00a0<\/b>\u2013 An extremely flavoursome ladoo made with gram flour, ghee, milk and sugar.<\/li>\n<li><b>Mathapuli<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A special sweet dish made of Ghee, beans ground into a thick paste and Ginger.<\/li>\n<li><b>Khuruma<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 It is made of sugar, wheat, ghee and Salt.<\/li>\n<li><b>Jagannath Ballav<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 An item made of wheat, sugar and ghee which is black in color.<\/li>\n<li><b>Kakara<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A famous Odia cuisine made of ghee, sugar, grated coconut and wheat.<\/li>\n<li><b>Luni Khuruma<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 It is basically a salty buscuit made of ghee, wheat, and salt.<\/li>\n<li><b>Marichi Ladu<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A type of ladoo made with wheat and sugar.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Pitha, Manda<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"21\">\n<li><b>Suar Pitha<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 It is made of wheat and ghee.<\/li>\n<li><b>Chadai Lada<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A sweet dish made of wheat, ghee, and sugar.<\/li>\n<li><b>Jhilli<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A famous sweet cuisine made of rice Flour, ghee and sugar.<\/li>\n<li><b>Kanti<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Made of rice Flour and ghee<\/li>\n<li><b>Manda<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 It is a type of cake which is made of rice, coconut, jaggery, cheese and ghee.<\/li>\n<li><b>Amalu<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 An item made of wheat, sugar and ghee.<\/li>\n<li><b>Puri<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A deep fried item made of flour and ghee. Basically a kind of bread.<\/li>\n<li><b>Luchi<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A pancake-like item made of maida and ghee that is deep fried.<\/li>\n<li><b>Dahi Bara<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A dish made of Biri\/Urad dal and then deep fried. It is dipped in curd.<\/li>\n<li><b>Bara<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A fried item made with Biri dal and ghee.<\/li>\n<li><b>Arisa<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A flat cake made of rice flour, sugar and ghee.<\/li>\n<li><b>Tripuri<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Another flat cake made of rice, flour, sugar and ghee.<\/li>\n<li><b>Rosapaik<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A cake made with wheat and ghee.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Milk preparations<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"34\">\n<li><b>Khiri<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A dessert made of milk, and sugar with rice.<\/li>\n<li><b>Papudi<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 An item prepared from only the cream of milk.<\/li>\n<li><b>Khua<\/b>\u00a0\u2013A dessert prepared out of Pure milk slowly boiled over many hours to a soft custard-like consistency.<\/li>\n<li><b>Rasabali<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A famous sweet dish made of milk, sugar, and wheat.<\/li>\n<li><b>Tadia<\/b>\u00a0\u2013A traditional and famous Odia cuisine made of fresh cheese, sugar, and ghee.<\/li>\n<li><b>Chhena Khai<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 It is made of fresh cheese, milk, and sugar.<\/li>\n<li><b>Bapudi Khaja<\/b>\u00a0\u2013Made from the cream of milk, sugar, and ghee.<\/li>\n<li><b>Khua Manda<\/b>\u00a0\u2013It is made of milk, wheat, and ghee.<\/li>\n<li><b>Sarapulli<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 This is the most famous milk dish prepared and the most difficult too. It is mainly made of pure milk boiled for hours.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Dal &amp; Curries<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"43\">\n<li><b>Biri Dali\u00a0<\/b>\u2013 A simple dal made of biri\/urad.<\/li>\n<li><b>Chana dali\u00a0<\/b>\u2013 A simple dal made of chana.<\/li>\n<li><b>Mitha dali\u00a0<\/b>\u2013\u00a0 A thick dal made from arhar dal (Pigeon pea\/Legume) made with sugar and is sweet in taste.<\/li>\n<li><b>Muga Dali\u00a0<\/b>\u2013 It is a type of odia dish prepared with lentil dal.<\/li>\n<li><b>Dalama<\/b>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0 It is a typical Odia dish which is a combination of many types of dal and vegetables such as: Baigana (Eggplant),\u00a0 Kakharu (Pumpkin), Bean, Kanda Mula (sweet potato), Coconut, Bodhi (a dried root vegetable that looks like a mushroom) with hing (asafoetida). Tomatoes (Bilati Baigana )are not used in Puri Abhada as it\u2019s a foreign vegetable.<\/li>\n<li><b>Raita<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A yogurt dish with radish, cucumber,salt and curd.<\/li>\n<li><b>Besar-<\/b>\u00a0A vegetable curry mixed with plenty of coconut and mustard paste.<\/li>\n<li><b>Saga<\/b> \u2013\u00a0 A dish made with leafy green plants like Spinach, Leutia, Koshala that is seasoned with local spices.<\/li>\n<li><b>Bhaja <\/b>\u2013A fried item<\/li>\n<li><b>Goti Baigana \u2013\u00a0<\/b>A dish made of small eggplants and coconut sauce.<\/li>\n<li><b>Khata \u2013\u00a0<\/b>A sour item made with cooked mango, apple, grape mixed and cooked together.<\/li>\n<li><b>Mahura \u2013\u00a0<\/b>A type of mixed vegetable curry that uses very basic ingredients like Kakharu\u00a0 (Pumpkin), Saru (Arbi\/ Taro) Kanda Mula\u00a0 (Sweet potato).<\/li>\n<li><b>Pita \u2013\u00a0<\/b>An item made with the fried flowers of Neem tree.<\/li>\n<li><b>Potala Rasa-\u00a0<\/b>It\u2019s a famous spicy gravy based odia dish in which the main ingredients are Potala (Pointed gourd) and coconut milk.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Not all Indian festivals involve only fasting and a vow of quiet (maun vrat).
